Down To The Basics: Here's What Forms The Crux of Positive Workplace Culture
March 22, 2019
An ideal work environment is something every organization seeks and tries to inculcate. For various reasons like better employee retention, increased creativity, and improved productivity. But all of this is possible when companies have taken the necessary step to ensure a happy and positive workplace.
The world just witnessed the International Day of Happiness on 20th March 2019. Founded by philanthropist, activist, statesman, and prominent United Nations special advisor Jayme Illien to inspire, mobilize, and advance the global happiness movement.
Keeping that in mind we thought let’s get some basics towards a more positive workplace, across to people!
1. Positive Reinforcements
The way you talk to your employees goes a long way in creating the right vibe and environment. When you use phrases like “I’m impressed with…” or “The way you think/work is helpful because…” or “I appreciate your help with…”, you’re making a major and positive impact on the person. Such encouragement helps keep spirits and morale high.
2. Change The Way You Greet
When you walk into the office always have a genuine smile on your face and greet people with a friendly “hi”. That one little action lifts up people’s moods even on a stressful Monday morning! Add a friendly hi-five and your employees can’t wait to be back with added enthusiasm!
3. Celebrate Victories
Make sure you are taking time off work to celebrate small and big victories. Be it a new deal, a new client onboard or a major obstacle resolved, a little celebration helps your employees know that you care and appreciate their efforts. These celebrations can be as small as a team lunch/dinner or even a little snacks party ‘on the house’!
4. Encourage Ideas
One of the most stressful things employees go through is the apprehension of putting their ideas forward. They automatically anticipate that their ideas are not good enough or will not be appreciated. Encourage people to speak up more and give their ideas a patient listening and even appreciate the effort, irrespective of the fact if you’ll be using them or not. If you like the idea then they have a boosted morale and if not then you can sit with them and explain what went wrong and help them build on their skills better.
5. Indulge In A Little Break
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy! You don’t want a bunch of dull Jacks in your office. So having a little team outing or fun sessions in the office help people stay focused, relaxed and hence more productive.
Keeping these pointers in mind, we’re sure companies are headed towards making a more positive and happy workplace for their employees.
